THE GREAT EXCHANGE
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. II Corinthians 5:21
The greatest exchange ever revealed to mankind is found in II Corinthians 5:21. There it tells us that God made Christ to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. In other words God took all of our sins and placed them upon the sinless Christ who bore them to Calvary where He died to pay the penalty for sin. God then imputed to us Christ’s righteousness that we might be able to stand perfect before Him. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
Once you receive the great exchange, by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior, you become a new creation and may come boldly before the Throne of Grace: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. II Corinthians 5:17-20
Through the great exchange we are not only given salvation but also the following blessings of God: But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. I Corinthians 1:30
Besides all these attributes we are also declared perfect before God as we read in the prayer of Colossians 4:12: …that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. So then, we who have received Christ have the blessings of the great exchange, now stand perfect and complete before God: For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power. Colossians 2:9, 10
