- REDEEMED
Redemption is a word familiar to all Christians. We hear some form of the word often and it becomes so commonplace that we sometimes cease to think of the word as the precious cornerstone of our salvation. And it is just that: the foundation of our acceptance by God.
To redeem is to ransom from bondage, to rescue. In his dictionary, Mr. Webster even adds the phrase, “to ransom from sin and its consequences.” We are reminded that the death of Christ is the ransom paid to the holy demands of God for the sinner.
Do you realize that this little word “for,” meaning, “instead of” or “as a price paid for” is used in every passage that speaks of this truth? This is evidenced in Romans 4:25, which speaks of Christ, “Who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification.”
Mankind needs redemption and justification, but the law that condemns, cannot pardon. What the law cannot do, however, God, by sending His own Son, has done for us! Jesus paid the price for our redemption when He died on the cross. Now all we have to do to be redeemed is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior.
